Card terms
Last updated 1 October 2026
These terms cover the NuviCard Visa card: who issues it, how you can use it, the limits and fees that apply, and what to do if something goes wrong.
1. The card and who issues it
The NuviCard Visa ("the card") is a virtual prepaid card issued by a licensed partner institution ("the issuer") under a licence from Visa. NuviCard Ltd. is the program operator: we run the account, the app and customer support, and we act for the issuer in your dealings with the card. These card terms sit alongside the NuviCard terms of service and your account agreement, which names the issuer for your region.
The card is not a credit card. It spends only the dollars already in your NuviCard account. Your balance is not a bank deposit and is not insured by any government deposit scheme.
2. Getting a card
A card is issued only after you complete identity verification and make your first top-up. The issuer can decline to issue a card or can cancel one where its licence, Visa's rules or the law require it. One virtual card is included with your account at no cost. A physical card is coming soon and will be covered by an update to these terms.
3. Using the card
You can use the card to pay anywhere Visa is accepted online, in apps, and in stores through Apple Pay or Google Pay. The card can't be used at ATMs. Each transaction is authorised against your available balance; if the balance is too low, the transaction is declined. Some merchants, such as hotels and car-hire companies, place a hold that can be larger than the final amount and that is released when the merchant settles.
The card may be used only by you and only for lawful personal purchases. The acceptable-use rules in the terms of service apply to the card.
4. Limits
You can spend up to $10,000 per calendar month. You can set a lower cap for yourself in the app at any time. The issuer may apply additional limits where required by law or by Visa, and we'll show any limit that applies to you in the app.
5. Fees and currency conversion
The virtual card is free and carries no monthly fee. Purchases in US dollars have no transaction fee. Purchases in any other currency are converted at the Visa rate on the day of settlement plus 1.5%. The current fee table is on the fees page and in the app, and we give at least 30 days' notice of an increase.
6. Digital wallets
You can add the card to Apple Pay or Google Pay. The wallet provider's terms apply to the wallet itself. Removing the card from a wallet does not cancel the card; freezing or cancelling the card in the app stops wallet payments too.
7. Keeping the card secure
The card details are shown in the app and must be kept private. Don't share them, write them down where others can see them, or enter them on sites you don't trust. Online purchases at participating merchants are confirmed with 3-D Secure in the app. If you think your card details are known to someone else, freeze the card in the app immediately and tell us at support@nuvicard.com. We can issue a replacement virtual card at no cost.
8. Disputed transactions and refunds
Check your transactions in the app and tell us within 60 days of a transaction you don't recognise or that was charged incorrectly. We will investigate and, where Visa's rules allow, raise a chargeback on your behalf. While a dispute is open we may credit the amount provisionally; if the dispute is resolved against you we'll reverse the credit. Refunds from merchants are credited to your balance when they arrive, which can take up to 10 business days. Refunds in a foreign currency are converted at the rate on the day they settle.
9. Freezing, cancelling and expiry
You can freeze and unfreeze the card in the app at any time; a frozen card declines all new transactions but still receives refunds. You can cancel the card in the app. The issuer can suspend or cancel the card with notice where required by law, by Visa, or by your breach of these terms, and without notice where it reasonably suspects fraud. The card has an expiry date shown in the app; we issue a replacement before it expires. Cancelling the card doesn't close your account, and your balance stays available for withdrawal.
10. Liability
You are responsible for transactions you authorise and for transactions made with your card details before you tell us they are compromised, unless they were caused by our or the issuer's mistake. Neither NuviCard nor the issuer is liable for a merchant declining the card, for goods or services you buy with it, or for losses caused by events outside our reasonable control. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.
11. Changes
We may change these card terms, including on the issuer's instruction. For changes that affect you adversely we give at least 30 days' notice by email and in the app. If you don't accept a change you can cancel the card before it takes effect.
12. Governing law
These card terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction stated in your account agreement. Complaints about the card can be sent to support@nuvicard.com; we handle them on the issuer's behalf and tell you how to escalate if you remain unhappy.
