Getting started
Which countries can open an account?
NuviCard is available to residents of a limited set of countries in Europe, Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The full list is shown when you start sign-up. If your country isn't on it yet, leave your email and we'll tell you when it opens.
Do I need to verify my identity?
Yes, always. Every account completes identity verification before a card is issued. You'll need a valid passport or national ID card and a short selfie. Most checks finish within a few minutes, and some take up to one business day.
What do I need to open an account?
An email address, a phone running iOS 16 or Android 10 or later, and an identity document from the country you live in. You also need to be 18 or older. Business accounts aren't available yet.
Card
Who issues the card?
The NuviCard Visa is issued by a licensed partner institution under a licence from Visa. NuviCard operates the account and the app.
Can I add the card to Apple Pay?
Yes. Once your card is issued, add it from the card screen in the app, or directly in Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. Payments in stores and in apps work from your phone straight away.
Where can I use the card?
Anywhere Visa is accepted online, in apps, and in stores through Apple Pay or Google Pay. It works at merchants outside your country and in currencies other than the dollar. Because it's a virtual card, it can't be used at ATMs.
Can I get a physical card?
Not yet. A physical card is coming soon, and existing customers will be able to order it from the app. The virtual card stays free either way.
Funding
How do I top up?
By bank transfer in your local currency, or by sending USDT to the personal deposit address shown in your app. Top-ups are converted to dollars at the rate shown before you confirm and carry a 1% fee, with a minimum of $1.
What does NuviCard cost?
The virtual card is free and there is no monthly fee. You pay 1% to top up, nothing extra on dollar purchases, and 1.5% on purchases in other currencies. The full table is on the fees page.
Can I withdraw or send money?
Yes. You can send dollars to another NuviCard account instantly, or withdraw to your bank account or wallet from the app. Withdrawals go to accounts in your own name, matching the identity you verified.
Security
Is NuviCard a bank?
No. NuviCard is a financial technology company, not a bank. Card services are provided by licensed partners. Balances are not bank deposits and are not covered by a government deposit scheme.
What happens if I lose my phone?
Freeze your card from any device by signing in on the web, or write to support@nuvicard.com and we'll do it for you. Two-factor sign-in means nobody can get into your account with your phone alone. Once you have a new device, sign in and unfreeze the card.
